Benamor Golf Course

Previous Next
This was the first Golf course to open to the east of the Capital of the Algarve, Faro. In 1986, Sir Henry Cotton was inspired by the old church in the Quinta de Benamor to set up what was to become the clubhouse of the first golf course in the eastern region of the Algarve it opened its doors in 2000.

It is located between Tavira coast and the uplands of the Serra de Caldeurao. The Course offers views both southward out to the Atlantic Ocean and northward towards the hinterland with its striking hills and fertile valleys.
Benamor is a lovely course just five minutes from Tavira. In excellent condition with testing par 3 hole golf holes with a lovely friendly clubhouse. You can walk this course without much trouble. Suitable for all standards, some sloping greens add to the entertainment.

The legendary British champion and golf architect died during the construction of this course. The project underwent a number of changes, which were introduced by Howard Swan and Raymond Jones, before its final layout was eventually decided upon.

The church was restored, and reopened for religious worship; the clubhouse has been built next to the church.

The most common trees are the carob, olive-tree, and fig-tree. The first few holes are the easiest to play and birdies can be obtained without too much difficulty, although the following ones are longer and therefore harder to play. This is definitely a user-friendly course to visit.
